A love affair with hair
Anybody who’s ever met me knows I love good hair, and that I’ll never leave the house without a perfect mane. Yes, I’m madly in love. With hair. On the head. Listen, I don’t care if you’re wearing jeans and a t-shirt, if you have an elegantly coiffed head, you’ll automatically look good in my books. But throw on a Versace gown with awfully greasy and unmaintained hair, and you suddenly look like you’ve stepped out of a trailer park.
Throughout history, hair has played a significant role in our society – it’s associated with youthfulness and beauty in women and virility and masculinity in men; so it’s no surprise that hair loss can make many men and women feel self-conscious.
Look at the bible. Samson took his strength to destroy the Philistines from his long, flowing mane. When Delilah cut his hair, his strength was gone.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to say that bald men are unattractive. On the contrary, some men look particularly good with a bald head. However, if you’re a man who’s losing his hair and it makes you want to scream in distress, there’s a permanent way to fix this. Hair transplant. It’s the only way. I don’t care if you use Rogane or Propecia, these will just slow down the process. The only guaranteed way to keep the hair on your head for good is with a hair transplant. I know, it was news to me too. I should probably go back to all my ex boyfriends who use Rogane and let them know it won’t work. Or maybe not.
How do I know all of this? Well, I did say I love hair. So when I got invited to visit the Dubai Hair Club, I jumped at the occasion. What?! A place dedicated to making sure you have beautiful hair?! A place where they measure the space between each hair follicle to see if you have thinning hair, and where they have all sorts of treatments to help your hair grow thicker, and where they can even help you create personalized shampoo specific to your own hair! It was like I had died and went to heaven. Even the clinic looked like a little piece of heaven.
The curious soul that I am, I couldn’t help but ask a million questions.
The hair transplants are performed by highly skilled surgeons of course. The most famous transplant procedures are Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT), Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), and Stem Cell FUE, also referred to as FUE. ACell/PRP which is the latest hair growth treatment is also offered by the clinic.
What I was most interested in was what the hell do I do with my own hair loss? I’m not balding by any means, but I don’t have the same hair I used to have when I was living in Canada. Ladies, there’s a solution. Again this will only temporarily fix the problem, but nonetheless you’ll look fabulous. This certainly applies to men too.
– Mesotherapy: It’s a treatment that works by injecting medications into mesoderm which is the layer of tissues and fats under the skin.
– Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy: PRP is plasma that is derived from the blood and is rich in plasma. PRP is injected into the areas of the scalp that are going through thinning by injecting it in small amounts.
– Acell: A noninvasive treatment, the ACellMatristem system comes in powdered and sheet form. It’s injected into the areas of the scalp where the thinning is taking place.
– Laser treatment: This easy and safe method treats thinning hair in both men and women. It energizes cellular activity within the follicle and promotes the proliferation of thick, full, and healthier looking hair.
I was lucky enough to get to try out the laser treatment. You basically lie down on a bed for 20 minutes, they put on some soft music in the background, and you close your eyes and simply relax. Think of it as a mini meditation moment. Now of course I couldn’t see the results after just one session; you usually need at least 3 or 4 sessions to notice a difference, but nonetheless it was pretty cool.
