Side-Hustling Your Way to Success: How to Launch Your Dream Business While Working Full-Time

September 19, 2022

You’ve probably heard the saying, “If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it.” It’s because busy people simply know how to get organized and hustle. And that’s what you need to do if you want to launch your dream business while working full-time.

It won’t be easy, but it’s definitely possible. You just need to be strategic about it. In this post, I’ll share some tips on how to balance your full-time job while launching your dream business. Let’s do this!

Why You Should Start a Side-Hustle

Okay, so maybe you don’t even have side-hustle to start with. You have to figure out what you’re genuinely passionate about, enough to see it through. Some people start something on the side simply because they’re tired of the daily grind and they’re looking for a way to relax from work. Or you’re on the ‘not content with the status quo’ bus and looking for a way to take your life to the next level.

No matter what your reason, starting a side-hustle is a great way to have fun, discover your passion, and maybe even make your dream business a reality. And if you’re working full-time, it’s the perfect way to get started without making any major sacrifices.

How to Find the Time to Work on Your Side-Hustle

Even if you’re juggling a full-time job and a family, you can still find the time to work on your side-hustle. It all comes down to being mega organized and efficient. Here are tried and true tips:

Make a plan: Sit down and figure out when you’re going to work on your business each day. You might want to block off certain hours on your calendar, or just make a list of the tasks you need to complete every week. I personally block out a moment before work to sit down and brainstorm, and I have a couple of evenings dedicated to longer work sessions, all in the name of making my dream business come true!

Set realistic goals: It’s important to remember that you’re not going to be able to do everything at once, so trust me, don’t try to. Start small and gradually increase the amount of time and effort you put into your business.

Set boundaries: It’s important to be clear with your loved ones about what hours you’re working and what hours are off-limits. You need to create a space for yourself where you can focus on your business without distractions.

Delegate or ask for help: If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to ask for help from your friends and family. They might be able to do some simple tasks for you, like taking care of the kids or doing the grocery shopping. You’ll need to be honest with yourself on the things you simply can’t get done and ask for the help where needed.

How to Turn Your Side-Hustle Into a Small Business

Turning your side-hustle into a full-fledge small business isn’t as hard as you might think. Here’s how I would get started:

1. Get organized. The first step is to get yourself organized. Make a list of what you need to do to transform your side-hustle into a full-blown business. This might include things like setting up a website, creating a branding strategy, or, most importantly in my opinion, drafting a business plan. 2. Make a budget. Once you know what you need to do, create a budget and make sure you have the funds to cover all of your costs. This might include things like website hosting fees, marketing expenses, or even office supplies.

3. Set some goals. It’s important to set some goals and timelines for yourself so you stay on track and don’t get overwhelmed. Goal setting will help keep you motivated and help you measure your progress along the way.

4. Stay focused. It’s easy to get sidetracked when you’re working on your own business, but it’s important to stay focused and dedicated if you want to be successful. Block out some time each day to work on your business and stick to it!

How to Know When You’re Ready to Quit Your Day Job

Okay, you found an awesome side-hustle you enjoy, you’ve transformed it into a small business, you’re making revenue, you’re balancing between it and your full-time job. Ah-mazing! So how to you know you’re ready to quit your job and focus solely on your business?

Here are a few signs it may be time:

People want what you’re selling: If more and more clients are coming to you for your product or service, or you’re finding new revenue channels, that means you’re probably providing something valuable.

You’re making enough money to sustain and live comfortably enough without your day job: If the income from your side gig is good enough to live off of, even if it means tightening your belt just a little, and you see potential for ongoing, sustainable growth, that’s a positive sign.

You’re missing out on sales or more work: If your day job is limiting your ability to accept new work, or expand your business, it may be time to evaluate whether your job is worth continuing or whether you could make more focusing solely on your small business.

You’re happier working on your small business: This is a no-brainer. If you’re feeling so much more fulfilled with your side gig, use that passion to work on a business plan and set yourself up for success as you transition from your current job to being a full-time entrepreneur.

Conclusion

There will be times when you feel overwhelmed and like you’re not making any progress. But don’t give up! Keep pushing forward, and eventually you’ll see results. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your business won’t be either.

Whether it’s marriage of business, patience is the first rule of success.
