My obsession with TED
I’m obsessed. Captivated. Absolutely hooked on TED talks. The odd person may have no clue as to what I’m talking about when I mention TED. Their mind automatically conjures the image of that teddy bear in Seth MacFarlane’s Ted film. No, it wasn’t funny, and I usually enjoy those kind of movies. But that one was just plain terrible.
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. – www.ted.com
Here are my 5 all time favorite TED talks (so far). Some of these could inspire you and actually transform your life. No kidding.
1. Tony Robbins: Why We Do What We Do
If you’ve never heard of Tony Robbins, you’re missing out big time. Tony Robbins is a life coach and expert in leadership psychology. It also helps that he’s seriously hot.
Key takeaway: Learn what it is that drives you to do what you do every day and how to change your habits.
2. Matthieu Ricard: The Habits of Happiness
Matthieu Richard is a biochemist turned Buddhist monk, and is often called “the happiest man in the world”.
Key takeaway: Try out some meditation, it’s powerful.
3. Neil Pasricha: The 3 A’s of Awesome
Neil Pasricha is the New York Times bestselling author of The Happiness Equation, and is considered one the world’s leading authorities on happiness and positivity.
Key takeaway: Besides hearing about the amazing journey he had with his blog, you’ll learn about the 3 important A’s of life: Attitude, Awareness, and Authenticity.
4. Guy Winch: Why We All Need to Practice Emotional First Aid
Guy Winch is a psychologist and author with lots of data to back him up.
Key takeaway: Something I constantly say: we need to talk care of our minds as much as we take care of our bodies.
5. Nick Vujicic: Overcoming Hopelessness
Now this one I’ve included as a bonus talk; it’s actually a TEDx talk. TEDx talks are presented for local audiences at independent, local TEDx events around the world. But I just absolutely love this one. Nick Vujicic was born with Phocomelia, a rare disorder characterised by the absence of legs and arms. Instead of letting it take over his life, he’s instead used it to live life to the fullest and become a motivational speaker.
Key takeaway: You can do anything you want in life, no matter the obstacles. Enough said.
